Nutritional Choice of the Month - September 2007: Salmon

Looking for a food that is low in calories and saturated fat, yet high in protein?  Look no further than a nice piece of salmon.  Unbeknownst to many, salmon are incredible fish that travel thousands of miles throughout their life cycle and within two to five years returning to the very location where they were born to spawn and die.  Their flesh ranges in color from pink to red to orange with some varieties richer in important omega 3 fatty acids than others.

Incredibly beneficial for the cardiovascular system, merely two servings of salmon per week can lower triglycerides, prevent and control blood pressure, and protect against stroke and heart attack.  Like any other nutritional selection I recommend, always choose your salmon baked, broiled, or grilled.
